My fingers are twitchy. Lace is calling me and I'm thinking of giving in. Two years ago I didn't think that I would ever be able to knit lace. But now.... I love those yarn overs that make the holes and the knitting stitches together to give the garment shape. I love the shock in someone's voice when they ask "Did you make that?" or "Where did you get that shawl from?" I like to show off my skill and I'm amazed that I can now knit those complicated patterns that eluded me in my teens (only because I couldn't count properly). I think that what opened these patterns up for me was learning how to use a chart. It seemed like an indecipherable number of boxes and symbols - like learning a new language. But now charts are my preferred method to read patterns.
Isn't it amazing how a challenge and a little patience help you improve your skills?
